Overview:
NJSIAA Sports Committees provide a valuable role in the successful administration of high school sports. These committees serve in an advisory capacity and assist NJSIAA staff in recommending changes or new considerations to the Executive Committee. Any proposal coming from a sports committee is reviewed by the Program Review subcommittee before it is sent to the Executive Committee for their consideration.
Role and Responsibilities:
- Meet annually to review the season and identify changes that may need to be considered.
- Review the Tournament Regulations and recommend changes to tournament structure, seeding, qualification criteria, or other changes that the committee would like considered.
- Review correspondences received from member schools.
- Review post-season dates, locations and other matters as needed.
- Work with State Assignor(s) to review officials and address specific needs as needed.
- Review and recommend changes to officials’ fees when necessary.
- Review and assess NFHS Rules changes.
- Recommend NJSIAA modifications, when permitted, in the best interest of the sport.
Committee Alignment:
To have a fair and equitable framework for every sport, each Sports Committee will have the following voting members:
- Executive Committee representative
- Tournament Director
- State Rules Interpreter
- State Assignor
- Coaches
- Athletic Administrators
The number of coaches and athletic administrators will be determined by the total number of schools participating in the sport.
